The Beginning (1964-1965) [HD]

Just WOW..
Vietnam HD is a great series showing you never been seen raw footage. As for the other reviewer who said this is not what he/she exepected I say what did you expect? A documentry? This raw footage is sometimes hard to watch since my uncle was there from 67-68 (died three years ago) and would never mention it directly. He once said he could never go south of North Carolina due to the terrian looking too much like Vietnam. I highly recommend the series especially to those who never set foot in the country or much less the war it's self.

Powerful
This series truly elicits a great many emotions. Fear, anger, anxiety, remorse, pride. The fact that these men and women were not fully recognized for the value of their service until decades after their war was over is truly a travesty. Let us as a people vow never to let that happen again.

To all those that serve, in combat, and in peacetime, THANK YOU! There are no parades, fanfares, medals, or words that can express the true meaning of your service to us, your friends, neighbors, people. If there were a word that described heartfelt gratitude in a tangible sense, it would be reserved for you.

Great visuals but mediocre narration
There is a lot of really good film footage in this movie, but the narration lacked in accuracy. Many of the scenes that were being shown were stock footage of other events. An example, footage from Cambodia is inserted while the focus of the movie is on Dak To. Essentially, they took a mix and match of Vietnam war footage, added a soundtrack (sound effects) and told a story with it. There's nothing wrong with this method as long as you know it is taking place. I enjoyed the visual experience, but probably could have turned off the sound and added some music for about the same result. Many of the claims being made in the movie were also biased or misleading. During the battle of Dak To, U.S. troops and their allies were driven out of the base in what could be termed a defeat. The base was eventually retaken, but hundreds of ARVN soldiers were killed during the engagement. The VC left behind about 700 bodies, but many more were probably killed. In the end, nobody really knew the true...
